Overview

The blood bank supplies screened blood and blood components to the wards, theatres and the emergency department. All donations are screened for transfusion-transmissible infections before release, and transfusion practice is monitored for safety.

Donating blood

Donors are generally aged 18 to 60 and in good health
A brief health check and haemoglobin test precede donation
Donation takes about fifteen minutes; refreshments follow
Voluntary non-remunerated donation is strongly encouraged
