Clinical Transformation & Patient Experience

Building a more responsive, compassionate and navigable UNTH.

Since November 2025, the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital has been advancing a patient-centered transformation focused on service, navigation, communication, coordination and the experience of care.

The New UNTH in Action

Transformation becomes meaningful when patients can experience it.

  • Navigate

Helping patients and families identify the right service and find their way through UNTH.

  • Connect

Strengthening communication between patients, families and hospital teams.

  • Coordinate

Supporting timely communication and escalation across the patient journey.

  • Support

Providing a visible human point of assistance within the hospital environment.

Patient Liaison Officers

Patient Liaison Officers are a visible part of UNTH’s evolving patient experience. Positioned within the hospital environment, they help patients and families navigate services, communicate concerns and connect with the appropriate hospital teams.

  • Patient Navigation

Helping you find the right clinic, ward, desk or service.

  • Communication

Passing on questions and concerns to the right hospital team.

  • Care Coordination Support

Helping teams keep each other informed along your visit.

  • Patient & Family Assistance

A friendly point of help for patients, relatives and visitors.

  • Escalation Support

Raising concerns quickly with the staff who can act on them.

  • Frontline Observation

Noticing where patients get stuck so services can improve.

Patient Liaison Officers do not diagnose, prescribe or make clinical decisions. Your doctors and nurses remain responsible for your care.

Need help while you’re at UNTH?

Look for a uniformed Patient Liaison Officer. They can help you identify the appropriate service, navigate the hospital and connect with the right team.

Connected on the frontline

Patient Liaison Officers use practical communication tools to support coordination and timely communication across the hospital environment.
