A premier federal teaching hospital
The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital is a federal institution located at Ituku-Ozalla, along the Enugu to Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu State. UNTH combines specialist clinical care, undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, and health research in one integrated academic medical centre.
Serving Nigeria for more than five decades
UNTH traces its origins to a colonial-era hospital in Enugu. After Nigeria's independence in 1960 the facility became a General Hospital, then a Specialist Hospital in 1970, and an autonomous federal teaching hospital in July 1976. In January 2007 the hospital completed its full relocation to a purpose-built permanent site at Ituku-Ozalla.
Today UNTH operates more than 700 inpatient beds and over forty clinical departments, serving as a premier referral destination for the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The hospital is one of eight federally designated Cancer Centres of Excellence and is nationally recognised for cardiothoracic surgery and oncology.
