Practical information to help patients and their families navigate the admissions process, understand ward routines, and plan visits.
Admissions
Patients are admitted to UNTH through three routes: as scheduled elective admissions after an outpatient clinic decision, as emergency admissions via Accident and Emergency, and as transfers from other hospitals following clinical referral. In every case a consultant clinician assumes responsibility for care and determines the plan of management.
What to bring
- Government-issued identification
- Referral letter, previous investigations, and current medication list
- Health insurance details, where applicable
- Toiletries, sleepwear, and a change of clothing
- A relative or trusted companion to assist with administrative matters
During your stay
A named nurse and clinical team look after each patient. Ward rounds occur daily. Patients and relatives are encouraged to ask questions, request explanation in their preferred language, and share concerns with the ward manager at any time.
Discharge
Discharge is planned collaboratively by the medical team, nursing staff, and the patient. Written discharge instructions, medication, and follow-up clinic dates are provided before leaving the hospital.
